This exclusive voyage travels from the picturesque streets of Bergen to the remote regions of the Svalbard Archipelago, experiencing at close hand the unique wildlife and overwhelming majesty of the Arctic.
Itinerary
Day 1
Embark MS Nordstjernen in Bergen, the Gateway to the Fjords, and depart later this evening.
Day 2
Early arrival in Flåm, home to the famous Flåm Railway. Highly recommended, the 20 km journey travels through some of the most dramatic scenery in Norway. Depart around midday and continue towards Nærøyfjorden, before turning towards Geiranger.
Day 3
Arriving in Geirangerfjorden we will see the waterfalls of the Seven Sisters en route to the Art Deco community of Ålesund. Depart this evening for Trondheim.
Day 4
Norway‘s first capital, Trondheim boasts handsome architecture, as well as the medieval Nidaros Cathedral and the Ringve Music Museum. Evening departure to the Lofoten Islands.
Day 5
The coastal community of Reine is one of the most picturesque locations in the Lofotens. We will have a chance to explore before continuing along the Lofoten Wall, passing fishing villages and seabird colonies. After an opportunity to enjoy Svolvær, continue towards the Trollfjorden and the Vesterålen Archipelago.
Day 6
Morning arrival in Bjarkøy, just outside Harstad. Here lies a staggering chain of islands and, to our north, the bird cliffs of Krykkjeberg. Pass through Rystraumen and onto the pleasant city of Tromsø, the capital of the Arctic. Spend the afternoon exploring, then depart through the Magerøysundet Strait.
Days 7 & 8
The capital of the Nordkapp region, Honningsvåg offers a chance to visit the Nordkapp Museum and possibly the North Cape, before sailing around the cape towards the Svalbard Archipelago. The voyage to Longyearbyen takes approximately two days and, if conditions allow, we will make a landing at Bjørnøya (Bear Island).
Day 9
Morning arrival in Longyearbyen. Guided tour and free time, early evening departure for the Russian settlement of Barentsburg. On arrival there will be a short sightseeing tour and options to enjoy the museum and a folklore show.
Days 10 & 11
Wake up in front of the magnificent “Seven Icebergs” and head along the Magdalenefjord, before exploring the remnants of Svalbard’s whaling history at Gravneset. The itinerary is very much weather dependent, but we hope to cross the 80th parallel, head to Moffen Island and possibly explore the Woodfjorden. During the afternoon of day 11 we turn south.
Day 12
Morning arrival in Ny-Ålesund. You will have an opportunity to visit the museum and shop, before crossing the Kongsfjord and heading for the marble mines of Ny-London. Later we sail into the beautiful Krossfjorden and along the coast of Prins Karls Forland.
Day 13
Arrive in Longyearbyen this morning and disembark. Free time and lunch at the Radisson SAS Polar Hotel. Tour ends.
