Excursion programme – Bergen to Kirkenes
There is far more to the Hurtigruten experience than just sea and sky. Our extensive programme of excursions take full advantage of local, English-speaking guides and the fact that our ships call at ports larger vessels cannot reach. Most excursions are pre-bookable and only remaining places can be booked on board.

2A GEIRANGER PANORAMA 1 – GEIRANGER TO ÅLESUND FROM £59pp
This excursion takes you by coach and boat from the UNESCO World Heritage Site Geiranger to the pretty town of Ålesund. En route we negotiate the famous Eagle Road, travel past brightly painted villages and remote churches with waterfalls and rivers completing the rural idyll before you reach Ålesund.

2B GEIRANGER PANORAMA 2 – GEIRANGER TO MOLDE FROM £97pp
Climbing up the Ørneveien route to Linge, we drive along the famous Trollstigen, following a series of hairpins that take us some 900m above sea level. Beautiful and dramatic, with the expansive Romsdalsfjord magnificently set against the towering peaks, we rejoin our vessel after a short tour of Molde.

2C ART NOUVEAU TOUR OF ÅLESUND FROM £20pp
Its history and architectural highlights are best appreciated on foot, Ålesund is spread over a series of islands, linked by bridges. Rebuilt after a disastrous fire in 1904, the town was recreated to reflect the Art Nouveau trend of the age and this fascinating guided tour brings the town, its history and the symbolism of its architecture to life.

3A NIDAROS CATHEDRAL & RINGVE MUSEUM, TRONDHEIM FROM £36pp
There is an intimacy and charm about Trondheim’s captivating collection of brightly painted buildings that few large towns can match. This enchanting tour takes in the medieval Nidaros Cathedral and the Museum of Musical History at Ringve Gård, an absorbing collection of some 2,000 musical instruments housed in a beautiful manor house.

3B TRONDHEIM WITH NIDAROS CATHEDRAL FROM £31pp
This sightseeing tour of the former capital includes a visit to the famous Nidaros Cathedral, Norway’s largest medieval church and a national shrine since the 11th century. It also passes the royal residence of Stiftsgården, and the old town bridge that leads to the imposing Kristiansten fortress.

3C SVERESBORG, TRØNDELAG FOLK MUSEUM £28pp
Taking in the Trøndelag Folk Museum at Sverresborg, one of Norway’s largest open air museums, you learn about life in the Norway of the Middle Ages, visit a collection of historic buildings and an exhibition exploring life in this part of Norway over the past 150 years.

4A GLACIER ADVENTURE, ØRNES FROM £91pp
Norway’s second largest glacier has been amazing visitors for over a century. Board a boat south of Ørnes and sail through the narrow straits, passing small islands and skerries en route to the Svartisen Pavilion and a fantastic view of the glacier. Rejoin the ship in Bodø.

4D SALTSTRAUMEN - SEA EAGLE SAFARI, BODØ FROM £80pp
We travel by Zodiac to witness the world’s strongest tidal current, where millions of gallons of water are forced through the 150m wide strait, averaging speeds of 29 km per hour! Overhead we hope to see sea eagles, Europe’s largest predatory bird.

4E LOFOTEN VIKING FEAST, STAMSUND FROM £69pp
Travel by bus to the Lofoten Viking Museum at Borg we visit a re-creation of the largest Viking building ever found, an original chieftain house dating from around 500 AD. Joining a Viking feast you’ll learn more of the customs and legends of Viking life whilst enjoying traditional food in the authentic setting of the banqueting hall. Rejoin ship in Svolvær.

Travelling in winter gives an opportunity to join this exhilarating excursion by husky sleigh. Starting from the Tromsø Wilderness Centre on Kvaløya
Island, this thrilling adventure ends with a hot drink in a Lavvo (Sami tent) around the open fire.

Dramatically located, just 30 minutes outside Tromsø, Kvaløya is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna. Here you can meet some of the 250 huskies and learn more about the skills of dog sledging, complete your visit with coffee and cakes in a Lavvo by the campfire.

Guided walking tour of Tromsø, highlighting the town and its vital links with polar exploration. Visit the statue of Roald Amundsen, then explore the fascinating Polar Museum and “Mack Ølhallen”, Tromsø’s oldest pub, to enjoy a taste of the locally made brew.

6A NORTH CAPE – EUROPE’S NORTHERNMOST POINT, HONNINGSVÅG FROM £68pp
An unforgettable experience travelling from Honningsvåg across the sub-arctic landscape to North Cape Hall, carved into the side of a cliff on top of the North Cape Plateau. Explore the North Cape tunnel and the unique chapel, the small museum and the post office, where postcards are franked with a North Cape postmark.

6B BIRD WATCHING SAFARI, HONNINGSVÅG FROM £92pp
Travel across the dramatic landscape of
Magerøya Island to the tiny fishing hamlet of Gjesvær. Here you board a boat to Gjesværstappan Nature Reserve, an archipelago of islands that is home to three million nesting birds. Unsurprisingly the majestic sea eagle is often seen hunting these rich waters.

6C A TASTE OF LAPLAND FROM £58pp
A unique opportunity to meet a family of Sami reindeer herders and visit the Foldal Coastal centre, this fascinating excursion offers an insight into the rich history of the Finnmark area. Start with a visit to the Foldal centre, continue through Kjøllefjord to the summer camp of the Utsi family, whose traditional lavvo presents an ideal venue to learn about Sami life and tradition.

This journey takes us through a strategically important region steeped in dramatic history.
Travelling via the spectacular viewpoint overlooking the Pretfjellet fjord we travel through Kirkenes – the only town in Norway where West meets East – to Storskog, the border post on the Russian frontier.

7B RIVER BOAT SAFARI TO THE RUSSIAN BORDER, KIRKENES FROM £79pp
Best appreciated from the water, the Pasvik River has long borne witness to the often turbulent history of this area and, as you travel upstream through the wonderful scenery, you’ll pass beneath the Kjerringstupet cliffs and Trifon cave, en route to the border.

An invigorating ride by snowmobile across ice-covered fjords and the serene landscapes of Arctic winter. Guides will explain the fascinating history of the indigenous Sami people and welcome refreshments will be served in the warmth of the Lavvo. A short drive through Kirkenes brings you to the Gabba Reindeer Park where the snow hotel is situated. A guided tour of the beautifully decorated snow suites is followed by a drink in Norway’s largest Ice bar and a visit to the reindeer.

7E QUAD SAFARI TO THE RUSSIAN BORDER, KIRKENES FROM NOK 940 (approx. £97pp)
After receiving instructions on how to drive a quad bike you will set off to Kjerringstupet viewpoint and then continue to the border with Russia. Learn about the history and culture of the area, opportunity to buy local souvenirs and we make a stop for coffee and muffins. Return to ship.
